Gary L. Heusner
Equine nutritionist

Dr. Heusner is a Retired Extension Horse Specialist and Professor from the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. He holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. He was responsible for working with 159 counties and agents in the state of Georgia’s Horse Extension Program. He also conducted adult education programs and assisted with State 4-H Horse Programs. He was the faculty farm coordinator for the Department of Animal Science Horse Farms, with an inventory of 85 head of horses. His research projects were in the areas of nutrition, reproduction, and behavior of horses. He has numerous publications. Dr. Heusner continues to consult in the areas of equine nutrition, reproduction, and farm management.

 

Holly Balentine
Dairy cattle nutritionist

Dr. Balentine is a private consultant who has worked as a dairy nutritionist for 18 years, traveling to dairy farms throughout the Southeast and creating custom nutrition plans. She holds a B.S. in animal science from Berry College in Rome, GA; a master’s degree in animal science from Louisiana State University; and a Ph.D. in dairy nutrition and physiology from Virginia Tech. She is also an active member of the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists and the American Dairy Science Association.

FEED PRODUCTION

Godfrey’s Feed has an immediate opening in the Feed Mill to assist with feed production and oversee the accurate mixing of bulk and bagged finished livestock feed.

Qualified candidates will need to have the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment. Hours vary based on volume, but overtime will be required as well as Saturday rotation. Training will be provided, but familiarity with feed production, feed handling or livestock is preferred.


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to understand written feed formulas to properly mix in feed production by computerized systems and hand adds.
  • Operate forklift to deliver bagged ingredients from warehouse to mixing room to pour major hand add bagged products into mixer.
  • Weigh or measure materials, ingredients, or products to ensure conformance with requirements.
  • Accurately examine materials, ingredients, or products to ensure conformance with established quality standards.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and move up to 55 pounds.
  • Proficiency in utilizing computer systems.
  • Basic skill in mathematics is required.
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
